The Devil in love
The Devil names attachment that has stopped being chosen. Not necessarily a bad relationship — often a dynamic inside a good one that both people know about and neither names. The card's point is that the chain is loose. It has been loose for a while.
The Devil in work and money
Golden handcuffs, or a pattern you keep re-entering: the job you complain about and re-sign, the client you swore was the last time. The Devil does not ask you to leave. It asks you to admit you are choosing, which is a much harder sentence to say.

Read as evil, or as an external force acting on you. The Devil is about a chain you are holding, usually knowingly. Its discomfort is not that you are trapped; it is that you are choosing, and the card removes the option of pretending otherwise.
